WWII JAPANESE CARCANO TYPE I BOLT ACTION MILITARY
RIFLE. Cal. 6.5mm. S# F2343. Bbl. 30 3/4". Bbl. is marked only w/ S#. These rifles were produced in Italy for Japan & research indicates they were acquired by the Japanese Navy as the Army took almost all of the domestic production. The Italian production was accomplished between the years 1937-1939. Several Italian government arsenals cooperated in the production of parts for these rifles. The rifles used the basic Italian Carcano action but w/ Japanese features such as the 2 piece stock construction, magazine rear sight, plus bayonet attachment. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2400 meters. Inverted V front sight. Straight bolt handle. Cleaning rod is present. Hardwood stock set has 2 piece construction w/ bottom swivels. Period Japanese leather sling. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, staining & handling marks. Buttstock joint is notably open. Left side of butt has "HIX" carved in cheek area. Rear sling swivel screw is not present. Metal has traces of blue, turning gray w/ patina plus traces of oxidation & very fine pitting. Worn bore turning dark in grooves.
