WWII Nazi Red Cross Enlisted Hewer, with frog. The 10-1/4'' long blade is blunted at the end according to the Geneva Convention for non-combatant use, and has a saw-back spine for making splints in the field. It has a stamped marking of ''ges. gesch'' at the ricasso area and retains its original leather blade washer. In untouched condition, with a bright blade having some old grease on it, but should clean to near mint. Handle fittings are sound with a slight bubbling to the finish and an even oxidized patina overall. The black bakelite grip panels are in excellent condition being retained by two screws and nuts. Front grip panel is checkered, and the rear one is smooth as is correct. Scabbard retains approx. 98% of its original black paint with some scuffs and scratches and some crazing under the paint. Scabbard fittings show wear and an uncleaned dark patina. Original leather frog is very nice and marked on the back to ''CARL BUSSE, MAINZ, 1940''. There is a small hole punched on the back side of the frog near the top. Overall a nice untouched example. Est.: $500-$700. (John Ackerman collection)
