U.S. M1 helmet, fixed bail with rough textured Olive Drab dark green paint. (Olive Drab No. 9): Standard factory-applied enamel. Has makers stamp inside the front rim but too feint to make out. The shade varied slightly depending on the manufacturer, ranging from deep dark olive green to a slightly browner shade. Complete tan web chinstrap, there is a repaired tear on the right strap. Reversible cotton M1 helmet cover printed with the famous "Frogskin" camouflage pattern utilized extensively in the Pacific Theatre. 1st Pattern (No Foliage Slits). EGA stencil on the front, some Marines individually hand-painted or stenciled the Eagle, Globe, & Anchor (EGA) onto the cover though factory-printed EGAs didn't officially appear until the Korean war. Liner has some rips, the are rust stains around the rim where it meets the steel helmet, been together a long time... Westinghouse liner with "W" logo embossed into the crown inside the top of the liner, original WWII-era liner utilizing the early OD#3 (khaki) webbing. there are some small cracks along the rim, the thin leather chinstrap is broken with about 8" remaining on the left side. Consigner states he has provenance that this helmet was used in the Battle of Guadalcanal (Aug 1942 – Feb 1943) which he is unable to locate at this time, if found we will provide it to the winning bidder. Comes with nice wooden stand.
