Iowa FNAWS is again pleased to have one of the Wyoming Governor’s bighorn tag. Wyoming governor Mark Gordon, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission and Dept., the Wyoming Big Game License Coalition, and the Wyoming Wild Sheep Foundation are pleased to provide this 2023 bighorn sheep permit for our auction. This license is valid for any open hunt area that has more than 8 type 1 ram licenses issued. The number of licenses issued per hunt area may change from year to year. Season and license numbers for fall, 2023 will be finalized in April, 2023. In 2022, this license was valid in 6 hunt areas; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. These areas account for approximately 75% of Wyoming’s annual bighorn sheep harvest. The high bidder may hunt in any open area that qualifies in accordance with the above. High bidder does not have to pick a specific area and may hunt different areas. The five-year waiting period between bighorn sheep licenses does not affect the ability to purchase this sheep license, and purchasing this permit is independent of applying for a bighorn sheep license through the draw system. The license fee ($152 for resident, $2320 for non-resident) is waived. Preference points are not affected by purchase of this Governor’s permit. 90% of the auction proceeds provide funding for Wyoming bighorn sheep projects via the Wyoming Governor’s Big Game License Coalition. Past Iowa FNAWS successful member bidders include Craig Nakamoto (2008), Pat O’Neill (2020) and Julie Chapman (2021).
