Japanese made bolt-action centerfire rifle chambered for .378 Weatherby, and imported by Weatherby out of South Gate, CA. This rifle has a replacement barrel and some other work done to it, and it was produced between 1974 and 1981 by Howa (the exact date of manufacture cannot be determined). The Mark V was introduced in 1958, and in-house manufacturing was brought back to the United States in the 1990's. Rilfe features a blued finish, receiver drilled and tapped for optic mounting, an approximately 24" magna ported octagonal barrel, no provision for iron sights, wide serrated trigger (it looks to be adjustable), jeweled fluted single-piece forged bolt, 54 degree bolt throw with checkered bolt knob, nine-lug bolt, knurled bolt release lever inside the trigger guard, serrated bolt mounted manual safety, hinged floorplate with a serrated release in front of the trigger guard, and an aluminum trigger guard. The gloss hardwood furniture consists of a semi-pistol gripped Monte Carlo style shoulder stock with skip-line checkering at the wrist, a skip-lined checkered forend with a contrasting end cap and white spacer, sling swivels and studs on the forend and bottom of the shoulder stock, right-hand cheek piece, white diamond inlaid contrasting wood grip cap with a white spacer, and a brown ventilated rubber recoil pad with white and black spacers. The magazine floorplate shows limited coverage of floral scrolls and edge designs with 'RMR' engraved in the center. A Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5x20mm scope with a duplex reticle is mounted to the receiver using two-piece Buehler mounts and 1" rings. The blued finish retained is approximately 92% with edge wear, handling blemishes, and losses around the chamber area. Metal displays deformation in some of the screw slots, and some dings on the trigger guard. Pin-prick pitting was observed where the finish is gone at the chamber, and there is oxidation on some of the screws. Action is smooth and crisp, and the bore is bright with strong rifling. Furniture wood is in very good condition with light handling and storage marks. The bolt release lever has to be pulled away from the receiver to remove the bolt.
Condition is NRA Good.
