Single shot falling block rifle marked "Kess Arms Co. / 244 Rem". Features blued finish, case color receiver and lever, exhibition grade walnut two piece stock, highly engraved with much gold inlay. Barrel is 24" long, round and tapered, deeply engraved at muzzle and rear half of barrel with oak leaf motif, gold inlaid vines and galls/acorns. cross hatching on scope bases and on barrel behind forward base. Receiver and lever feature scroll pattern engraving over much surface area, engraved borders, and with patterned screw heads; gold accent trigger and lever latch. Manual safety at tang, "SAFE" position inlaid in gold letters. Forend has round ebony tip affixed with slanted seam, large single checkered panel wrapping to sides. Stock has 13-1/4" length of pull, pistol grip and Monte Carlo comb/cheek piece, checkered wrist, diamond faceted grip cap with brass colored center diamond. Checkering pattern on wood features inset fleur-de-lis, separate raised shield shaped panels, jigged forward edge at forend. Buttplate is bright steel (nickel?) with trap door, has deep relief oak leaf pattern surrounding game scene on door panel; hawk and captured prey. Scope rings have matching oak leaf engraving. Stock is attributed to Lenard Brownell, barrel and buttplate engraving attributed to Albin Obiltschnig. Hanging tag with notes from Jim Wilkinson includes the name "Joe Albanese" but no further information. Bore is excellent; overall condition is excellent with no signs of use or rough handling. Mounts Leupold Westerner 8x scope with adjustable objective lens, fine crosshair with dot, clear view. Includes leather scope caps stamped "Rifle Ranch" on connecting strap.
