WR SN: 17300 'Best Quality' Side-by-side boxlock dangerous game double rifle chambered for .425 Westley Richards Magnum, manufactured in London, England circa 1911. Configuration: Blued & case hardened finish, fine scroll engraving with game scenes including a bontebok antelope on the lock cover plate & tiger on the trigger guard, 26" shoe lump barrels with dolls head third fastener & quarter rib fitted with one standing & four folding leaves marked for 100, 200, 300, 400 & 500 yards, raised bead top blade front sight with pivoting hood & flip-up glooming sight, selective automatic ejectors, selective single trigger, bushed strikers, bolted tang mounted sliding safety, hand detachable engine turned locks, hinged lock cover plate, sling swivels, multi-point checkered walnut splinter forend with fancy cut horn tip & Deeley release lever, and semi-pistol grip shoulder stock with drop points, trapdoor steel grip cap, inlayed gold escutcheon, beaded right handed cheekpiece & red rubber recoil pad. The right side of the grip has been fitted with a steel plate containing a threaded channel, presumably for an additional grip, rest or mount. The barrels are marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS 178 NEW BOND ST LONDON", "GUN MAKERS BY APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY GEORGE V. REX ET IMP.", "MAGNUM NITRO EXPRESS .425 BORE." & "FOR W.R PATENT RIMLESS CARTRIDGE." All observed serial numbers match. Includes a vintage leather wrapped locking trunk case with partitioned interior lined in purple velvet. Case contains a leather sling, 13 live rounds of Westley Richards branded ammunition, 5 spent cases, cleaning paraphernalia and small bone & ivory containers with spare front sight & striker. Rifle retains approximately 70% of it's original blued finish showing some handling marks and thinning with wear above the forend & near the muzzle. The receiver exhibits traces of case colors in the protected areas with the balance bare metal. Action is crisp, the bores shows good luster with semi-worn rifling & some scattered pitting, markings are crisp and the glossy wood stocks are good+ appearing refinished with semi-worn checkering & "7575" stamped in small characters on the bottom of the buttstock.
