Considered one of the finest Hammer Guns ever made. In 1860 the firm moved to 25 South Castle Street.
In about 1870 the firm were appointed Gunmakers to HRH the Duke of Gloucester. From 1870 to about 1874 the firm's principal address was 5 Thomas Street but they retained 25 South Castle Street. The action incorporating J. Thomas action patent no. 324 of 4th February 1870, top lever, rebounding back locks with C-scroll hammers by Stanton, one of the finest lock makers of the era, percussion fences, the makers name engraved on both locks surrounded by beautiful highly embellished foliate-scrollwork, well-figured stock with engraved heel-and-toe plates, straight wrist with hand checkering on the wrist & forearm and brass oval initial plate on underside of butt stock. 30" blue barrels with game-rib engraved "Williams & Powell, 25 South Castle Street, Liverpool". Choked IM-Left and M-Right. Coin finished action, hammers and triggerguard, double triggers, single split ejector. Matching serial number on lower tang and water table which also has Patent 324, 1870 stamp, English proofs. Inside of forearm is stamped "Wanson patent 636". Weight 7 lb, 2 1/2" chambers, Birmingham nitro proofs, LOP is 14 1/4" to front trigger, Drop at comb-1 3/8", Drop at heel 2 1/8". The underside of the barrels are engraved in block letters " Charles S. Dell Jr. Helena, Mont." Comes with felt lined form fitted tan leather case, with two W&P trade labels on the inside lid. Leather carrying handle has detached, included. Vintage oiler in case. Also included are Victorian era shotgun reloading accessories/tools including Brass, adjustable powder dram measure with ebony handle, same as above powder measure, 12 Bore Shotgun Cartridge Roll crimper with ebony handles, cast iron, marked "12", Shell Primer Seater Seating tool, cast iron, marked "12", Bridgeport Gun Implement Co. 1173 ring type 12' shell extractor, Hammer Gun Nipple Wrench with ebony handle, two unmarked square wrenches, screwdriver, unmarked, ebony handle, barbed pick with wood handle, metal oiler, 1905 patent date, dented and a G & J.W. Hawksley brass 12' decaping tool. bores are excellent/bright, one-cock hammer actions are excellent, barrels lock-up tight, wood is very good with a few very minor scratches, worn checkering at the wrist , engraving is crisp and the barrels have been reblued at some point, overall very good with some light muzzle wear, rubs. It appears the case has been refurbished with a receipt dated 1969 for Mr. Dell for work on it.
