Featured in "The Winchester Book" by George Madis (page 224 - described as from the C.R. Peleshok collection), this rare variant shipped Aug 4th, 1886, one of only 540 of this model with non-standard buttplate, and one of only 250 shipped with half length magazine. Features 28" octagon barrel, buckhorn sights, straight wrist, finger lever latch, sliding dust cover, steel shotgun buttplate. Bore is good or better condition, bright with sharp rifling, few scattered tiny pits throughout. Retains 60% bright blue, fading to gray or bare metal on edges of barrel flats, sharp edges & high spots of receiver, around rear sight, where action parts rub. Scattered light patina on right side of receiver near breech. Finger lever & trigger are smooth, with mottled gray & blue colors, appear originally case colored & now slightly faded. Screw slots are generally very good. Buttplate is good condition, grayish brown color. Wood is good condition, solid with visible grain, many small dents and scratches throughout. Wood to metal fit is good. Action is smooth. Markings are crisp & even. Includes letter from The Winchester Museum at Buffalo Bill Cody Historical Center, listing features as delivered from factory.
