Rifle. Lever-Action. Classic Winchester M1873 saddle ring carbine. "The gun that won the West" Manufactured in 1883. 18" round barrel. with brass beaded front sight blade. Ladder U-notch rear sight. Full length tube magazine. Stable, and ring on the left side of the receiver. Carbine butt plate with brass covered trap. Un-checkered straight wood stock, and forearm. Sliding dust cover. Tang marked "Model 1873" Serial number on lower tang. Top of barrel marked "Winchester Repeating Arms, New Haven CT. Kings Improvement-Patented March 21866, October 16, 1850. Bore is a little rough, but rifling present. Action is a little stiff, but works fine. There is no blue finish left+, having turned a dull gray/brown patina. Wood is good, with the usual dings, and there is a slight crack to the rear of the lower tang. At some point, someone drilled holes in both sides of the butt stock. Holes have been filled with what appears to be plastic wood. Could be greatly improved with sanding/finishing. Not a bad conditioned carbine for its age. Well used but not abused. NRA Condition-Good/very Good. Antique Firearm.
