Winchester Model 1873 Third Type Lever Action Saddle Ring Repeating Carbine, #562399, .44-40 CF cal., 20'' blued barrel, with integral blade front and adjustable leaf rear sights marked on top ''Winchester's-Repeating-Arms, New Haven, CT./King's-Improvement-Patented-March 29, 1856, October 16, 1860'' in two lines ahead of rear sight; blued steel receiver with saddle ring mounted on left side marked ''Model 1873'' within fancy brackets on top tang and the serial number on lower tang; blued full-length tubular magazine and two barrel bands; case hardened operating lever, hammer, trigger and crescent buttplate having sliding door opening to a butt trap for cleaning rod (not present); oil-stained walnut forend and buttstock. Receiver sliding dustcover and saddle ring are intact. Mfg'd 1902. Condition is very good retaining no original finish with scattered dings and scratches, occasional roughness on receiver, and an overall darkening gunmetal color. Forend and buttstock are sound showing nice color, straight grain and fit well except for area around upper tang. Action is crisp and smooth; bore is clean with pronounced rifling. Produced over a period spanning 50 years, the Model '73 Winchester is forever famed as ''The Gun that Won the West.'' Est.: $1,000-$1,750. (C&R)
