Winchester Model 1876 Third Model Lever Action Rifle, #34698, .45-60 cal., 28'' octagon barrel, blue finish, straight grip walnut stock, crescent steel trapdoor buttplate, Rocky Mountain type front sight with small notch to the front edge, and folding adjustable leaf rear sight, with integral dustcover rail. Upper tang is marked ''MODEL 1876'' with foliate design on each side. Barrel with two-line ''KING'S IMPROVEMENT'' with ''OCTOBER 16, 1860'' last patent date address. Mfg'd 1883. Rifle is in good antique condition overall. Metal with a mostly dark patina with general reddish brown surface freckling; approx. 20% toning blue finish can be found throughout the rifle, including small highlights on the receiver and magazine tube. Factory lettering shows some spots of age and wear but is still visible. Condition of the wood is consistent with that of the rest of the rifle with general darkening, scratches, and impressions, a little heavier on the bottom of the buttstock. Wood fits tight around the upper and lower tang, etc. Action is good; bore is dark with scattered patches of surface erosion. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)
