Winchester Model 1885 Single Shot Lever Action Rifle, #80249, .32-20 cal., 28'' octagonal barrel of No. 1 weight marked ''The Daisy Rifle'', originally blue and case colored, smooth straight walnut stock and forend, with later relief engraved frame, top barrel flat, muzzle, breech and buttplate. Originally shipped July 19, 1898, with factory letter verifying barrel length, caliber, and ''The Daisy'' marked barrel. Engraving appears to have been accomplished in Australia, as the animals involved include kangaroos. Work is signed ''RC'' and is quite well done. Condition is excellent as modified and refinished. Barrel retains approx. 98% of a later-accomplished black/blue. Many of the rifles marked ''Daisy'' were in fact shipped to Australia. Receiver treatment contrasts nicely as relief area has been finished in a now thinning French-type gray, with blue in the shallow areas. Original stock has dried somewhat and shrunk revealing stress fractures, with the most prominent emanating from the upper tang, which will probably need stabilization. Action is excellent, bore is very good. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)
