Antique Winchester Model 1885 Low-Wall ''Thickside'' Cartridge Rifle, #64484, .32 WCF cal., 28'' round steel barrel marked ''Manufactured By The / Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn. U.S.A.'' with arrow-style end brackets, dovetailed blade front sight, sliding ramp adjustable rear sight, and steel crescent buttplate. Straight grain varnished walnut buttstock and semi-Schnabel forestock having ebony (or buffalo horn) wedge inlay. Originally finished in blue and case hardening. Condition is fine to excellent, retaining 92% original blue thinning and dulling with minor losses at muzzle, considerable case hardening showing bright mottled colors mainly to the left side, receiver top and tang and hammer sides, and sharp markings. Screw head slots are straight and unmarred. Stocks are sound with nice grain and color, only minor bumps and use, and most of what may be a later varnish finish. Action is smooth and precise; bore is shiny with sharp rifling. A very collectible pre-1898 Winchester rifle boasting of fine condition, a good centerfire caliber and the desirable round barrel.
