Winchester Model 1886 Lightweight Takedown Lever Action Rifle, #149798, .33 WCF cal., 24'' tapered round barrel with buckhorn rifle sights, marked with maker's name and address, ''Nickel Steel Barrel/Especially for Smokeless Powder'' and caliber on left side, has short mag. tube beneath with ''Pat. June 6, 1893'' release lever; receiver with loop operating lever that drops action open for cartridge chambering-top ejection, marked ''Model 1886/Winchester'' and trade mark pat. off. info on upper tang, two-line 1884-85 patent dates and ser. no. on lower; two-piece oil-stained walnut stocks, forend with steel nosecap, buttstock with grooved hard rubber ''Remington Arms Co.'' shotgun-style buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1910, originally in full blued finish with case hardened lever and hammer. Condition is very good, the barrel retaining approx. 50% blue thinning and mixing with brown patina, receiver is gunmetal gray, lever and hammer show faded case colors. Stocks are smooth and solid with minimal handling marks and an added thin coat of finish, buttplate is a replacement. Take-down lockup is tight; edges and markings are fine; action is crisp; bore is clean showing overall black-powder etching and sharp rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (C&R)
