'Fancy Sporting Rifle' manufactured 1901. Features 26" barrel, blade front sight, Lyman rear peep sight with quick throw lever for elevation adjustments & selectable aperture for peep, dovetail in barrel for rear sight filled with blank, vertical box magazine, straight grip, solid rubber recoil pad, eyelet type sling studs, checkered panels at wrist & forend, extra fancy figured walnut stock & forend. Bore is very good to excellent condition. Retains 80% blued finish. Barrel appears to be a later replacement, with few signs of use or handling. Action appears reblued, with small pits and long scratches under the finish, some dishing to surfaces. Finish is thinning or graying on high spots & edges of action, where lever rubs on magazine. Wood is very good or better condition, some dents & small gouges, visible lines from light sanding, slight shrinkage at wrist. Checkering is fairly sharp, some thinning of outside border lines, fairly even depth. Recoil pad is hard to the touch, good fit to stock. Two line address under rear sight shows some shallowness in places and pits over letters. Markings on barrel are crisp. No proofs observed on receiver ring or breech. Action operates smoothly. Includes letter from Cody Firearms Museum / Buffalo Bill Historical Center listing manufacturer's data for this rifle as shipped from the factory. Factory records confirm caliber, barrel length, fancy checkered stock, shotgun butt with recoil pad, does not mention Lyman sight. Condition is NRA Good++ as restored *** C&R Firearm ***
