Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle, #412603, .30-06 cal., 24'' round ''nickel steel'' barrel; barrel with a dovetailed front sight marked ''Watson'', and a D.W. King buckhorn rear sight. Straight grip walnut stock with a crescent steel buttplate; Schnabel forend with ebony insert at the tip. Top of receiver and barrel are Winchester proofed. Upper tang with three-line ''U.S. PAT. OFF. & FGN'' markings; left side of receiver with standard two-line ''Aug. 6, 1907'' last patent date; caliber on barrel is marked as ''30 GOV'T'-06'' Mfg'd 1924. Rifle rates as good overall. Barrel retains approx. 60% thinning and lightly toning factory blue; 10%-15% on the receiver and lever with the balance being a combination silvery gray with some cloudy brown highlights. Buttplate has worn mostly bright with some light spotting at the top edge. Maker's marks are clear. Wood fits tight at the adjoining surfaces, with scattered surface dings and scratches; buttstock with a thin crack at the toe, upper tang, lower corner at the wrist. Forend with a few fissures near the tip. Crisp action with a smooth hammer and trigger; very lightly frosted bore with good rifling. Est.: $700-$1,000. (C&R)
