"The Widow Maker," an American made semi-automatic recoil operated repeating shotgun chambered for 2-3/4" 12 Gauge shotshells, and manufactured in New Haven, CT. The Winchester Model 1911 SL was produced from 1911 until 1928 (Blue Book reference) with approximately 103,246 units produced. Shotgun features a blued finish, long recoil action, an approximately 26" round barrel with checkered grip knurling, the fixed choke measures 'Improved Modified' with a drop-in gauge, front sight with a silver-toned bead, half-length tubular magazine, checkered cross-bolt safety at the rear of the trigger guard, smooth curved trigger, knurled take-down knob at the rear of the receiver, and smooth cross-bolt bolt release. The hardwood furniture consists of a smooth semi-pistol gripped shoulder stock, smooth finger grooved forend, 13-1/2" length-of-pull, and a black checkered factory plastic butt plate. The shotgun is charged by 'pulling' back the barrel by the checkered section with it pointed in a safe direction. Some users mistakenly cycled the weapon by placing the butt on the ground, and forcing the barrel down. In this position, the muzzle will be pointing towards the face of the user, and creating a potential situation for a slam fire (The Widow Maker). There are standard Winchester markings on tang and barrel, and they are sharp and legible. The original blued finish retained is approximately 96% with edge wear, contact wear from disassembly, and minor handling blemishes. Metal displays no rust, or deformation. The action is smooth and crisp, and the bore is smooth and shiny. The furniture wood is in good condition with general thinning to the finish, and very light handling blemishes.
Condition is NRA Very Good.
