W/ ALLEN FIREARMS. 1) Sixth plate tintype of cavalryman wearing shell jacket, slouch hat, holding bar hammer pistol. CONDITION: good to very good overall, fair contrast &clarity, dirty cover glass, housed in scarce hard rubber patriotic case w/ Union monitor in front of fort. 2) Sixth plate double image in hard rubber case, cavalryman wearing shell jacket, posed w/ cavalry saber & pepperbox pistol stuck in his belt. Other image in case is of civilian. CONDITION: military image is fair to good w/ good contrast & clarity, originally in an oval mat which is included, but was put in larger mat to see periphery of subject. 3) Sixth plate tintype by St. Louis photographer, full standing infantryman posed wearing 9 button frock w/ sergeant chevrons, & bowie knife, holding cavalry saber, & barely discernible grip probably on pepperbox. CONDITION: good to very good overall, though image is dark, painted backdrop is seen on other photos by this photographer. 4) CDV of unknown dapper officer w/ large bushy sideburns, wearing kepi, loosely worn officer’s sash, pepperbox pistol sits on table. CONDITION: very good, top two corners clipped. 5) Ninth plate ambrotype of an enlisted man wearing frock, 2 piece eagle buckle on militia belt w/ Allen side hammer pocket revolver stuck in belt. CONDITION: very good overall, housed in hard rubber case w/ patriotic mat. Small tag in back of case “George Poe, Civil War, my father”. 6) Ninth plate ruby ambrotype of infantryman holding Colt pocket pistol w/ bar hammer Allen pistol stuck in belt w/ US buckle. CONDITION: good to very good, good contrast of young soldier, housed in hard rubber case. 7) Ninth plate ambrotype of young soldier w/ musket holding bar hammer pistol. CONDITION: poor, much of emulsion is missing, back of case has penciled inscription “age 16…/ June 1860 / J Woods…. Presented to George Caswell”. 8) Damaged ninth plate hard rubber Union case w/ see through clear bezel also included in lot. (02-14644/JS). $1,000-2,000.
