African Maiden by Jan Martin McGuire
Nothing says "Africa" like the exotic and beautiful tribal people which Jan Martin McGuire has become known for depicting. She has an uncanny knack for capturing their culture and their soul with her detailed brushwork of their colorful clothing and intricate beadwork. Many hours and countless brushes are worn down on a painting of the detail and scale. Jan Martin McGuire, artist and naturalist - is a longtime supporter of DSC. She and her husband James Hines are life members and exhibitors at the convention. Jan has been Artist of the Year several times and her work has appeared on the cover of Game Trails many times. Jan is an ardent believer that an artist has to experience what they paint. To that end she and James travel extensively all over North America, Central America and Africa - where they lead annual photographic and natural history trips to Kenya and Tanzania. Several major career achievements have happened recently including having a solo show in New York City at FORBES GALLERIES on 5th Avenue; Safari Club International Conservation Artist of the Year and Cover artist with Feature article in the international art magazine WILDLIFE ART. Jan is honored to be in many DSC members collections including: Corey Knowlton ("The Professionals" TV show personality) Ben Carter (Executive Director DSC), Gray Thornton (Past Executive Director of DSC), Larry Knowlton, Karen and Albert Wolfe (Past President of DSC) Patti and Rich Roberson (Past President of DSC), Steve and Yvonne Miller, Wendy and Irvin Barnhart, Phyllis Taylor, Don and Penny Schmidt, Tom and Vicki Garrison, Stan and Donna Newding, Wilson and Susan Stout and many many more.
