‘They get their pink plumage from drinking pink things in the water’ said my brother.
We stood watching them in amazement, as they sifted on the edge of the lake in Kenya.
‘Why don’t we do that?’ I asked
‘You are welcome to, but I’m pretty sure every animal in Africa has bathed in this lake so you might get sick’
‘No, I mean, why don’t we turn the colour of our food?’
‘You’re the colour expert,’ he smiled ‘You tell me.’ He turned and walked away.
We live in separate countries now on opposite sides of the planet. Yet we are family. I yearn for the time where we drank from the same river, after running through the African wild.
I told him I was going to America, to show my pinkness. He said ‘We may always be on opposite sides of the planet, but as our blood is shared, we run in the same direction. Be true to yourself. Keep your clothes on and don’t go swimming in the ponds pretending you’re a flamingo’

Brent Dodd was born and raised in Zimbabwe. His subject matter is uniquely reflective of his own experience and his affection for this world of adventure and wildlife conservation. Committing his thoughts and findings to canvas, he portrays humans, landscapes, and wildlife with equal precision and empathy. It was this upbringing that provided him with the foundation from which he launched his venture into the international art world. Having exhibited in New York, Las Vegas, Dallas, London and across the African continent, he enjoys a strict schedule of international travel, building a footprint to satisfy his love of art.
