New Blood - Bronze Sculpture by John Tolmay
TOLMAY - BRONZE AFRICA: The inspiration for this piece occurred on safari in 1989 while driving out of the Makame Depression in Masai land, Tanzania on the artist's way to Ngasamut, a place where the Masai gather every week or so to trade produce and livestock. The track out of the depression was steep, very rutted and long with dense jess bush the whole way. It was on this track that he came upon a lone Masai driving a bull. When asked where he was going, he indicated that he had traded some cows for his bull and was taking it back to his boma near a place called Oldonyo Ndrobo (a very long distance away). This was a wild place and one wondered where he would stop and rest when the night came. The place crawled with lions and hyena and he was simply walking into the night and it never phased him one bit. Limited edition #1 of 20. Measures 14”Hx23”Lx10”W and weighs 21lbs.
